Chieftan is Whitby Charter Skippers Association’s biggest vessel and offers long range fishing trips with levels of safety and comfort unrivalled by any other North Sea charter operation.
The Chieftain is an ex-Royal Naval vessel, which was originally an Aberdovey Class fleet tender called Alnmouth and then operated as a Sea Cadet training ship.
Chieftan in Whitby HarbourDue to Ministry of Defence cutbacks, she was sold into the private sector in early 1999. Since her purchase by Chieftain Charters she has been extensively overhauled, modernised and re-equipped- resulting in an unrivalled angling vessel for long range North Sea trips.
Trips on Chieftan include 10 & 12 hour inshore trips, mid range 24 hour trips that take you between 30-60 miles offshore, 36 and 60 hour offshore trips of 60-120 miles and far reaching trips that go beyond 120 miles and have durations of between 46 and 120 hours.

The fishing itself is almost exclusively wreck fishing with cod and ling being the main species caught.
Chieftan’s current records for these stand at 44lb for ling and 35lb for cod- big fish by any anglers standards!
While fish of that size don’t get caught every day- you can expect to see a fair amount of double figure fish on a Chieftan Charter with plenty of 10lb’ers and a good amount of fish in the 15-20lb bracket.
